edwinzee replied to your photo: Heading Casual I’m inherently more of a casual… Love the pink pocket square, green tie combo. Good stuff! Thanks. I’ve noted before that coordinating my PS with the rest of my outfit has been a personal weakness. Your kudos means a lot.

eightinhand replied to your photo: Heading Casual I’m inherently more of a casual… “… #menswear evolved in close conjunction with the evolution of modern business…” I’m not really convinced that this is actually the case, but I’d be interested to hear your argument on this. I just sort of tossed that out there, pretty much taking it for granted. My quick and dirty argument is that...

afistfulofstyle replied to your photo: Heading Casual I’m inherently more of a casual… This is the conversation I have with myself all the time. Wearing a shirt with buttons puts you in the top quartile of formality in Portland ME, a jacket and tie is easily top 1-3%. The CBD model has virtually 0 relation to my life. I do take a degree of inspiration from CBD. It’s the most...

The curse of knowledge?
How do you respond if someone asks you what you think of their outfit, and you don’t care for it? Do you ever make unsolicited comments to friends or acquaintances, like say telling someone that their black shoes and brown belt don’t go together, or that they should not button their bottom button?

Survival of the Fittist: One Year →
Great job, Trent! You’ve quickly become one of my favourite #menswear blogs. If anyone isn’t following him, you need to rectify that, pronto! girouxmcisaak: Today is a bit of a special day, because it was one year ago that I posted my first WIWT. Technically my first posts were on the 25th, but there wasn’t anything of substance. While I’m not wearing the exact outfit, I did try...

Anonymous asked: I think you're confusing gorge and button stance. My understanding is that the gorge is the point where the collar meets the lapel. Your blazer and the other jacket you posted both have a normally positioned gorge (not too high or low), but a lower button stance.

metcarfre replied to your photo: Uniform? This has many of the same basic… For a second I thought it was the LEC “Heritage Navy Blazer” (canvas.landsend.com/pp/…) which catches some flak for having matte metal buttons. I’ve looked at that blazer before and have to admit the matte buttons escaped my notice. I’m much more favourable to it now. The gorge on the LEC blazer is...

prodigal-punk replied to your photo: Uniform? This has many of the same basic… Looks like you had the buttons changed on the blazer. MoP? Also looks like you’re itching your balls through your pocket. Tried and true trick. Haha HA! You’re right the buttons are switched out. But, for pewter, rather than MoP.

thesilentist replied to your photo: Uniform? This has many of the same basic… I would go maybe with a linen square next time. Maybe in light blue? Other than that, I dig it. Hitting the right pocket square is definitely the weakest part of my style game.

The Silentist: Adopting a personal uniform →
Kiyoshi sets the bar incredibly high with this bit of writing. I completely understand the disjointed feeling he describes towards his wardrobe. Some are likely surprised to hear this from him, as he’s become something of the ‘uniform guy’ already. My own wardrobe is an incoherent mess compared to his, even before he settled on his base of ‘casual blue.’ I am somewhat...

plywould replied to your post: A humble request Wouldn’t it be just as easy (and ask less of the tumblrverse) to leave your dash and go , for instance, thesilentist.tumblr.com and search (or jscroll through) to find that particular post? or just google ‘silentist’ and ‘whatever keyword you need’? For lots of purposes, sure. But, not for replying to a post and that is one of my favourite parts...

Suggestion Saturday
Does Tumblr have a version of Twitter’s Follow Friday (ff)? I’m not aware of one, so I’m going to do Suggestion Saturday. I’ll try to recommend at least one of my favourite #menswear Tumblrs each Saturday. #ff on Twitter has become next to useless and people just post lists of their friends with no explanation of why they deserve a follow. I’ll explain why my choice...

A humble request
Can people start tagging their posts with the name of their own Tumblr? Although there is no way to search your dash for a specific Tumblr, you can search by tag. So, if I wanted to find a particular post by The Silentist, I currently have to scroll through the entire dash. But, if he tagged all his posts #thesilentist (or #the silentist), I could filter with this tag. That would make the task of...

Tie Space →
Have you ever given serious thought to the tie space on the collar of your shirt? No? Me neither. That’s why everyone should be following Will over at A Suitable Wardrobe. I don’t necessarily aspire to dress like him, at least not at 34 I don’t, but he does an amazing job of calling our attention to the little details that add up to make a style.

urbanooutfitters replied to your photo: Tweed on tweed? I’m wearing a tweed jacket with a… yes. agree. tweed on tweed, cosigned by Anthony & Dustin Great! I will certainly do it again. The pants are a very light tweed, so I think as long as the colour and pattern aren’t close, they’ll work with other tweeds. We’ll have to wait and see.

Then, I decided to just do it and if it worked, it worked. If not, the worst that would happen is…? I don’t even know. Can anything bad happen because you make a sartorial...

Pure Stupidity
I’ve generally stayed away from straight up hating on things on this Tumblr. I’ve mocked a few looks, but meant it to be generally good natured. However, I was just browsing a certain much loved #menswear site[1] and in my browsing saw that a Bathing Ape pocket square supposedly retails for $190!?! Even at 70% off it was still $57. Give me a fucking break. The thing doesn’t even...
