It is freaking hot here right now. This is around 9AM and it’s already 30°C (86°F), 38°C (100°F) with the humidex. I work from home and typically wear a jacket and tie to remind myself that I’m at work. But, I refuse when it’s so hot.
Although I have air conditioning at home, I have to leave the house to walk my daughter to and from school. I was hot in this minimal get-up. I cannot imagine how sweaty I would have gotten with an extra layer, no matter how lightweight and summer appropriate the material.
The sunglasses are cheap because I have a bad track record of breaking and losing sunglasses. Once I can prove more responsible, I’ll consider investing in quality shades.
I think t-shirts need more #menswear love. They certainly turn up on my dash, but people rarely talk about them. This shirt comes from Lands’ End Canvas. It’s great quality and great fit and was very affordable.
The madras shorts are also LEC.
The shoes are PRL, bought off eBay. I prefer canvas boat shoes and replaced the leather laces, which I’ve never particularly liked.
Also, the observant among you will have already noticed my #menswear disapproved body mod stretched lobe piercings. I’ve added another with the tattoo on my right arm.
Additionally, I’ve regained some of the weight I’ve lost over the winter, which sucks.

Sandals on men?

Am I wrong to find the strident injunction against men wearing sandals and shorts that emanates from #menswear to be more than a tad homophobic and perhaps misogynistic? The injunction comes with this idea that men’s legs and feet are gross and no one wants to see them. However, I’m guessing that many gay men and straight women actually like the sight of men’s lower limbs.

How about we struggle against the straight male hegemony of our culture and confront where some of our style ideals come from. Of course, this does not mean there are no legitimate reasons for objecting to shorts and sandals. It just is not on the grounds of dismissing men’s uncovered bodies.
